SHERMAN OAKS : Would-Be Robber Sentenced to 9 Years
A would-be robber whose attempted crime in Sherman Oaks was cut short when he was shot by the husband of the intended victim was sentenced to nine years in state prison Tuesday.
Marque Todd Fisher, 28, of Los Angeles pleaded guilty two weeks ago to assault with a deadly weapon in the Jan. 7 attack on Van Nuys resident Joelle Downey, who was assaulted at gunpoint when she drove to the 4400 block of Matilija Avenue to pick up a purse that she had lost earlier in the day at a market.
When she got out of the car, Fisher grabbed Downey and aimed a starter pistol at her. But her husband, retired Beverly Hills Police Officer Vincent Downey, pulled his service revolver and shot Fisher in the upper body and leg.
Vincent Downey retired in 1977, and was authorized to carry a weapon.
Fisher also pleaded guilty to another armed robbery that he had committed earlier in the day.
