Florida Plays Host to Women’s Tennis
Defending champion Florida is seeded No. 1 for the third consecutive year in the NCAA women’s tennis championships, which open today at Gainesville, Fla.
The Gators (24-1) will receive a first-round bye and open play with a second-round match Thursday.
Stanford (22-2) is seeded second. The Cardinal has three singles players ranked in the top six.
Four area schools are in the 20-team draw. USC (15-8), seeded ninth, faces No. 5 Texas (21-4) in a second-round match today. No. 11 UCLA (8-13) takes on No. 6 Arizona State (14-9) Thursday. No. 10 Pepperdine (16-4) meets No. 8 Arizona (14-6) and No. 17 San Diego State (15-9) plays No. 16 Mississippi (15-8) today.
