Striped Bass Anglers Go on Record Spree
Two lake records for striped bass have been claimed: 46 pounds 12 ounces by Randy Woerz of Bloomington at Silverwood Lake and 40-2 by Allan Cole of Lancaster at Castaic.
Woerz, who broke the Silverwood record of 42-8 set by Dennis Irwin last year, was fishing from shore in Miller Canyon at 1 a.m., using a Bomber Long-A lure, which is a rainbow trout pattern. The fish was 45 1/2 inches long with a 29-inch girth.
Cole, who until recently targeted big stripers at Silverwood, caught his while trolling his AC Plug for largemouth bass at Castaic last Thursday. There are no official records, but lake personnel said the largest striper weighed previously was 32 pounds.
