Three Girls Held in Carjackings

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — Three teen-age girls led by a 13-year-old armed with a .38-caliber revolver were arrested at a doughnut shop early Tuesday for investigation of a carjacking rampage.
The “fearsome threesome,” as police described them, allegedly hijacked a car in Redwood City on Monday morning and drove it to Daly City. After wrecking the car, they stole a second vehicle, police said.
The girls were trying to rob the driver of a third car when he slapped the revolver out of the 13-year-old’s hand, police said. The driver, Victor Oliveira, said he let the girls escape.
“What am I going to do, shoot them?” Oliveira said. “They were just kids. I have kids of my own.”
The girls drove the second stolen car back to Redwood City, about 25 miles south of San Francisco. Police found the girls outside the doughnut shop after another accident. They were captured without incident.
Police spokesman Howard Baker said the gun apparently was stolen.
