ATRIUM WANTED: What’s 33 feet high, meticulously polished and packed away in a college basement? That would be sculptor Robert Irwin’s winged obelisk, a prism made of nearly transparent acrylic, and built so that “the light overhead would make light look different at different times of day,†says the dean of Cal State Northridge’s art school. . . . Irwin is being honored worldwide, but budget woes at CSUN--and the lack of a suitable display space--are keeping one of his best works in the dark (B1).
