TEACH AND REPENT: Former finance officer Stephen Wagner, who embezzled $4 million from the Newport-Mesa school district, wasn’t its first rip-off artist. But a previous wrongdoer is already making amends. . . . Steven Kunze of Santa Barbara, who taught in the district in the 1980s, recently sent back a check for $2,303--with an apology for filing an excessive workers’ compensation claim for an on-the-job accident. Kunze wrote: “In my greed I tried to milk it for all it was worth.”
