Pope John Paul II wound up an anti-Mafia crusade in Sicily by visiting jailed alleged Mafia members, who gave him a thunderous welcome. The prison inmates in the town of Caltanissetta repeatedly interrupted the Pope’s speech with applause as he urged them to take the “path of abandoning evil and sincerely seeking good.â€
