Police have recovered a pickup stolen by a man who shot a Torrance couple, killing the husband.

The couple’s truck was found Sunday night in the 3500 block of Artesia Boulevard in Torrance, less than half a mile from their home. A resident recognized the truck after hearing a description of it on the news and called authorities, Lt. Wally Murker said.

While police combed the truck Monday for clues, neighbors and friends of the couple struggled to make sense of the killing of Joseph Raymond Finzel, 29, and wounding of his wife, Lynn Finzel, who remained in critical but stable condition at County-Harbor UCLA Medical Center.

Police said the intruder may have entered the couple’s home on West 180th Place through an unlocked door about 11:15 p.m. Saturday. He tied up Lynn Finzel and assaulted her. When her husband arrived soon afterward, police said, the gunman shot him twice and then shot her. The woman then played dead for more than an hour while the assailant ransacked the home, police dead.
