VAN NUYS : Man Who Killed Son Died of Fire Fumes
A man who killed his son and wounded his daughter in a machete attack last week died of carbon monoxide poisoning from a fire he set after the incident, authorities said Monday.
Luis Antonio Pantoja went on a bloody rampage Thursday at the Van Nuys apartment of his 17-year-old daughter, Elizabeth--hacking at her arms and back as she held her infant in her arms.
When Elizabeth’s brother--13-year-old Luis Jr.--intervened, Pantoja killed the boy with the machete.
Elizabeth Pantoja was discharged Saturday from Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program in Woodland Hills.
Los Angeles Police Detective Phil Morritt said the police investigation of the case is being closed because Luis Pantoja, who committed the crime, is dead.
