R.J. Reynolds Denies Retreating in Price War: R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. has denied that it is backing down from a cigarette price war by ending discounts on its lowest-cost brand. The company has notified its distributors that a three-month promotion cutting the price of its Monarch brand by 75 cents a carton would end on June 30 as previously scheduled.
