Westchester Forward Sanders Signs Letter With San Diego State

Westchester High forward Jason Sanders, who was selected to The Times’ All-Westside basketball team, signed a letter of intent Wednesday with San Diego State.
The 6-foot-3 senior guard was the only starter from the Comets’ two City 4-A Division championship teams. He averaged 17.9 points a game and led a mostly underclassmen team to the semifinals last season.
Sanders, the most valuable player in the Western League, was selected to the 4-A team for the second consecutive year.
“I wanted to get away from Los Angeles, but I didn’t want to go too far,” Sanders said. “I felt I could come in and be a factor and help turn the program around.”
Sanders also was recruited by Tennessee, Wyoming, Cal Poly Pomona and Fresno State.
