SANTA ANA — Police on Wednesday identified a 17-year-old boy from Santa Ana who was shot and killed while riding with friends in a pickup truck Tuesday.
Jesse Romero died at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana shortly after the 3 p.m. attack.
Romero and two friends were traveling in a Chevrolet El Camino north on Flower Street near Dyer Road when a beige Toyota Corolla intentionally rammed the pickup, police said. The Chevrolet continued north and a passenger in the car pulled out a handgun and shot at the truck’s occupants, police said.
The attackers quit the chase near South Main Street and Warner Avenue, police said. After stopping, the pickup truck driver realized Romero had been shot.
The driver of the pickup truck told investigators that he did not know why the car rammed them or why they were fired on, Lt. Robert Helton said.
No arrests have been made, Helton said.
