NBA PLAYOFFS / UPDATE : CLIPPERS : Woods Replaced on the Roster
The Clippers activated center Elmore Spencer from the injured list and dropped No. 1 draft pick Randy Woods from their playoff roster.
Woods, who averaged 4.2 minutes in 41 appearances, had fallen on the depth chart at point guard behind Mark Jackson, Gary Grant and Lester Conner. That made him a luxury the Clippers could not afford, what with Danny Manning and John Williams still mending from minor injuries heading into the first-round series against the Houston Rockets.
Manning played 15 minutes Sunday after sitting out the previous two games because of a sprained ankle. He practiced Monday, but is still bothered by soreness.
Ron Harper had three steals in Sunday’s regular-season finale, tying him for the Clipper record of 177 in a season. Randy Smith of the San Diego Clippers did it in 1978-79. Smith also has the franchise mark of 203, set in 1973-74 as a Buffalo Brave. . . . Three Clippers finished in the top 10 in the NBA’s individual categories: Manning was 10th in scoring at 22.8 points, Jackson was tied for fourth in assists at 8.8 and Harper was sixth in steals at 2.21.
