PLACENTIA : School District to Decide on Layoffs
The Placentia Yorba Linda Unified School District Board of Trustees will decide Tuesday whether to authorize issuing layoff notices to child-care employees.
The district is proposing that 16 child-care employee positions be eliminated for the 1993-94 school year. By law, such notices must be issued at least 30 days before the start of the school year, but the district prefers sending them out before the end of the current school year.
Negotiations for a new contract between the district and the union representing about 800 classified employees have been in process since last summer.
Kim Stallings, assistant superintendent for administrative services, said that if the district was to grant a pay increase, even more cuts would have to be made to the $92-million district budget.
