Rob Gaudreau had two goals and three assists as the United States routed an undermanned French team, 6-1, at Dortmund, Germany, for its first victory in the World Hockey Championships.

The Americans, who had tied the Czech Republic and Finland earlier in the tournament, have four points in Pool B and are virtually assured of a berth in the quarterfinals starting Tuesday in Munich.

Eric Lindros scored three goals and had three assists as Canada routed winless Austria, 11-0, in Munich for its third victory in a row. Canada and Russia have advanced to the quarterfinals from Pool A.

Austrian player Christian Perthaler ruptured a blood vessel in his brain during the game against Canada. He was taken to a hospital, but did not require immediate surgery.
