Malibu : Toll-Free Recycling Hot Line
The city of Malibu will inaugurate a toll-free hot line May 1 to answer residents’ questions about the city’s new curbside recycling program.
The mandatory recycling program for single-family and mobile homes, condominiums and duplexes is expected to start sometime next month, after trash haulers receive the recycling containers they will distribute to residents.
The hot-line number, (800) 560-REXX, is named for REXX the Recycler, a boxer dog character created by illustrator Susan Zalusky. The character will be used to educate children and their parents about recycling.
Malibu’s recycling program was given the official go-ahead by the City Council on April 12. The council set a maximum fee of $2 per household per month that the city’s four haulers may charge for recycling. Trash rates will remain the same.
