TV AS TEACHER
Davis is for television what the National Rifle Assn. is for gun owners. He is a righteous, sometimes aggressive apologist for this 20th Century icon.
Television is ongoing conversation, arguably the largest conversation taking place on this planet at any moment. But the viewer’s role in this conversation is to watch and listen only, making it a conversation of limited possibilities.
Just as we would not let our 4-year-old decide what foods are best for her health, neither would we allow her a diet of junk conversations. We give our daughter the best food we can buy and the best conversations we can find for her mind. And those are rarely found on TV.
