L.A. Charter Amendments
Thank you for your insightful editorial on Prop. 5. As one who has done humane work, especially in the field of spaying and neutering, I am so grateful that you took such a strong stand.
Placing this department under a “citizen†commission, however well-intentioned, will only muddy responsibility. Too many good-hearted people do not have to face the day-to-day realities of the streets for both the animals and the brave officers who face many very real and constant dangers to save injured and abused animals. Animal control workers know how this department can be improved and made more economically viable. These are the people we should hear!
There are many ways this department can bring in more revenue if the new leadership is enlightened and not tied by overregulation. Every time a means of raising revenue is proposed, some politician opposes it--let’s give some new ideas a try!
