Countywide : Food Bank Donors to Get Free Subs
Subway Sandwich Shops throughout the county will give away free six-inch subs to residents who donate canned goods for a local food bank during the chain’s Food for Food campaign.
From 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, all 23 Ventura County Subway shops will take in canned goods and give out subs, local field representative Susan Hager said. She expects at least 300 people to donate food at each franchise outlet.
All food will go to Food Share Inc., an Oxnard-based food bank that supplies 92,000 Ventura County residents with canned goods, bakery products, fresh fruit and vegetables and paper supplies through a variety of outreach programs.
“One in seven people in our community count on the food bank to help them get through some tough times,†Jewel Pedi, executive director of Food Share Inc., said in a statement. “The last thing we want to do is turn anybody down because we’ve run out of food.â€
Subway’s Food for Food drive will be a nationwide event this year, taking place Sunday at more than 7,000 franchise outlets, Hager said. Giving away the free subs will cost each store an estimated $300, but Hager said most managers were eager to participate.
