Zelezny Sets World Javelin Mark: 313-5 1/2

Olympic champion Jan Zelezny of the Czech Republic set a world record in the javelin Tuesday with a throw of 313 feet 5 1/2 inches.
His effort broke Briton Steve Backley’s record by more than 13 feet.
Zelezny set the mark on his first throw at the Sanlam Super Athletics Meet in Pietersburg, South Africa.
