WORLD IN BRIEF : SOUTH AFRICA : 10 ANC Supporters Killed in Night Raid
Ten black ANC supporters were killed when masked assailants blasted the home where they were sleeping with bullets and a hand grenade. It was the country’s third massacre since Friday, the day after black and white political parties met in Johannesburg to resume constitutional talks and seek a negotiated end to apartheid. President Frederik W. de Klerk and African National Congress leader Nelson Mandela met in Cape Town for unannounced discussions on the escalating violence and the political talks. Police said the killers struck at 2 a.m., spraying a home with gunfire and tossing a grenade into the stone structure near Port Shepstone, on the east coast south of Durban. Eight blacks were gunned down Friday and Saturday nights in Sebokeng and Evaton townships, south of Johannesburg.
