A 38-year-old woman was critically injured after she drove into a moving train in Palmdale, authorities said Sunday.
The woman, whose identity was not released pending notification of relatives, was listed in critical condition at Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Daniel Castillo.
The woman was driving west on Avenue P with her headlights turned off Saturday about 10 p.m. when she encountered cars that had stopped at a lowered crossing guard to let a Southern Pacific freight train pass, Castillo said. The woman swerved into the eastbound lane to drive around those cars.
“She continued westbound, then slammed into the side of the train,” Castillo said. The accident is under investigation, Castillo said.
