Rolf Bjoerling, 64, a Swedish tenor who was often compared to his famous father, the legendary tenor Jussi Bjoerling. His father discouraged young Rolf from following in his footsteps, so the younger Bjoerling did not sing professionally until he was 32, shortly after his father’s death in 1960. He made his highly praised American debut in New York’s Town Hall in 1963. But his voice was inevitably compared with that of his father and found inferior.
