Bishop spent last season at Orange Coast as an understudy to sophomore Alisha Nelson. Bishop, from La Quinta High School, had a record of 8-1, and Nelson set an OCC record for victories while going 24-8.
But this season, Bishop has stepped forward to become the standout of the staff. She started the week with a 10-5 record, including four shutouts.
Last Wednesday, Bishop got her biggest victory of the season when she pitched a seven-hitter in OCC’s 2-0 victory over Cypress. OCC moved into a tie for the conference lead with the victory.
She also pitched a six-hitter as OCC beat Golden West, 3-1, Monday.
Other top performers:
Shelley Byrd was five for seven with a triple and a home run as Saddleback split two games. She also scored three runs and drove in three more.
Adrienne Sweetser of Orange Coast won the 3,000 meters at the Santa Barbara Relays in a time of 10 minutes 47.5 seconds.
