Youth Critically Hurt in Shooting Inside Apartment
HUNTINGTON BEACH — A 17-year-old was shot in the head Tuesday inside an apartment, and police were questioning a 14-year-old companion to determine if the shooting was accidental, authorities said.
The older boy, from Westminster, remained in critical condition Tuesday night on life support at UCI Medical Center in Orange. Police released few details about the 3:45 p.m. incident, which occurred at an apartment complex in the 17000 block of Golden West Street.
The 14-year-old boy was involved in the shooting, Police Sgt. Chuck Thomas said, but homicide detectives were still trying to determine whether it was an accident.
The 14-year-old, who lives in Huntington Beach, was not in custody Tuesday night, Thomas said.
“The victim was found on the couch inside of the apartment with a gunshot wound to the head,†Thomas said. “The weapon was found on the floor inside the apartment.â€
The teen-ager had been shot with a .22-caliber revolver, which police have recovered.
