New Opera Ensemble: The first season of concert opera from the Opera Orchestra of Los Angeles begins with Verdi’s “Attila,” June 18-20 at the Wilshire-Ebell Theatre. Music director for the new company is tenor-conductor Gualtiero Negrini, who also plays Ubaldo Piangi in “The Phantom of the Opera” at the Ahmanson Theatre. The season continues in October with three performances of Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin,” with American baritone Martin Wright, also at the Wilshire-Ebell. In February, 1994, the company plans to present Ghena Dimitrova and Giuliano Ciannella, in their local debuts, in Puccini’s “Turandot.” Tenor Jerry Hadley is scheduled to sing a recital in July of 1994.
