James Starts, Finishes Moorpark No-Hitter
Moorpark College pitchers Marcie James and Heather Santiago combined on a no-hitter in a 1-0 nonconference softball victory over Long Beach City College on Monday at Moorpark.
James (4-6) started and was replaced by Santiago in the second inning. James returned in the third and finished the game. Coach Will Thurston said he removed James because she has had a problem with the hitters at the bottom of the order the first time around.
“It was just a hunch watching the way things happened early in the season,” said Thurston, whose team is 6-7. “The game was too important to mess around with.”
The Raiders’ first hit was a home run by Wendy Baertschiger in the sixth inning.
