Carol Travis of Covina, a teacher at Frances Blend School in Los Angeles, has been presented with the Music Center’s BRAVO Award for the arts specialist category.
The BRAVO Award honors Southern California teachers for their outstanding achievements in arts education. Teachers are nominated by principals and other faculty at their schools.
For 23 years, Travis has been teaching music at the school, which serves visually impaired children ages 3 to 13. The students come from throughout the Los Angeles Unified School District and 45% of them have only a limited command of English.
Travis teaches a choral program and traditional orchestral instruments including piano and guitar.
