The Denver Broncos signed free agent Rod Bernstine to a contract that a source close to the negotiations said will pay the running back $4.6 million over three years, making him the third-highest-paid running back in the NFL behind Thurman Thomas and Neil Anderson.
In six seasons with the San Diego Chargers, Bernstine, 6 feet 3 and 238 pounds, has averaged nearly 5 yards per carry. He was the Chargers’ second-leading rusher last season despite playing in only nine games because of a shoulder injury.
