Two-time Olympic champion Bonnie Blair won the women’s 1,000-meter finals sand World Champion Gunda Niemann of Germany won the 3,000 at Heerenveen, Netherlands, in the World Cup speedskating series.
In the men’s events, Norwegian Johann-Olav Koss broke his own world record in the 5,000 meters, but ceded first place overall in that distance to Dutchman Bart Veldkamp.
Koss was timed in 6 minutes 36.57 seconds to cut 2.20 seconds off his previous world record.
