WHERE’S THE PAIN? Orange County ranks high--compared to its neighbors--in available car-pool lanes, but low in actual car-pool ridership, a new survey shows. Linda Valenti of the County Transportation Authority, has a reason why: “Most commuters don’t like to give up the freedom of having their car, so car-pooling is intense behavior modification to them.†Her goal: Convince commuters that ride-sharing once a week “isn’t so painful.â€
Shallow Car Pool
More than half of Orange County freeways have car-pool lanes, but commuters use them less than in neighboring counties.
