French Highway Said to Swallow KGB Treasure
PARIS — The KGB, the secret service of the former Soviet Union, has lost $200,000 under a French highway, according to French radio.
Radio-France said the highway was built over a cache of money left near Grenoble in the 1960s by Soviet agents preparing for a possible third world war.
It quoted ex-KGB Col. Igor Previn as saying Moscow, fearing a war, had arranged to hide money and radio sets in several Western European countries.
Previn said KGB agents visited all the caches when detente set in in the 1970s--but all they found at Grenoble was a new highway to Lyon.
