Sweet dreams are made of these.

Mounds, yea, mountains of chocolate. Enough to break the diets of 5,000 otherwise disciplined adults. Enough for nibblers or those who may gorge. Table after table of white and dark, bitter and semisweet.

Be they chocolate soldiers or chocoholics, chocolate lovers of all kinds can get their fill at the 10th annual El Camino College Chocolate Sunday festival, a benefit for student programs at the school. One admission price opens the door to an all-you-can-eat event from 2 to 5 p.m. today in the campus Activities Center.

The room will be filled with so much chocolate that the aroma alone will be intoxicating, said Mary Ann Keating, college spokeswoman.

But wander through the room and consume cocoa cake, try a silk pie, down a brownie. Connoisseurs may want to test chocolate-covered cabbage leaves or hand-dipped green beans. In all, 27 tables will be laden with confectionary concoctions to satisfy the most discerning sweet tooth, she said.

Organizers hope to raise $10,000 to help fund an addition to the college library and provide a boost to the college Special Resources Center, which serves students who are physically impaired or learning disabled, the Puente Project for Latino students and other campus programs. Local bakeries, clubs and organizations, including the Hawthorne Calvary Presbyterian Church, the El Segundo PTA and the Torrance Rotary Club, bake and donate the goodies for the charity event.

Musical entertainment, a dance band and activities for children have been arranged to complement the sweets. Two rides on the Goodyear blimp will be awarded as door prizes.

So forget those New Year’s resolutions and indulge for a good cause. At this event all consumption is guaranteed to be guilt-free.

After all, “calories consumed for charity don’t count,†Keating assured.

Admission is $20 for adults and $12 for children 12 and under if accompanied by an adult.

El Camino College is at 16007 Crenshaw Blvd. in Torrance. The campus Activities Center is at Crenshaw and Redondo Beach boulevards. Information: (310) 329-5345.
