METAPHYSICS: The Rev. Margie Ann Nicola will conduct a metaphysics class at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Encino Community Church, 5955 Lindley Ave., Tarzana. “Absolute Law and the Mysticism of Grace†will be her message at the 11 a.m. service.

CHOIR: The Bell Choir of Activities for Retarded Children from North Hollywood will present music at the 8:45 a.m. and 10 a.m. services Sunday at Reseda First United Methodist Church, 18120 Saticoy St. A Lenten potluck will be offered at 6 p.m. with Harry Haines, former director of the United Methodist Committee on Relief, as the keynote speaker.

JEWISH SCIENCE: The Society of Jewish Science will hold its monthly service from 11 a.m. to noon Sunday in the community room of Union Federal Bank, 13300 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks. The topic will be “Uses of Wealth.â€

YOUTH CENTER: A grand opening ceremony for a new youth center at St. Mary’s Church in Palmdale will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday. Light refreshments will be served. The church is at 1600 East Ave. R-4.

VIDEO SERIES: “Happiness is a Choice,†a Minirth-Meier video series, will be presented at Northridge Community Church of the Nazarene at 6 p.m. on Sundays through May 16. The church is at 10650 Reseda Blvd., Northridge.

EASTER WORKSHOP: A workshop for parents on celebrating Easter traditions will be offered at 7 p.m. Monday at Woodland Hills United Methodist Church, 5650 Shoup Ave. Refreshments will be served and child care is provided. A $2 donation is requested.

YOUTH PROGRAM: Brian White and his band Justice will be featured in a free Young Awakening series at 7 p.m. beginning Wednesday and continuing through March 21 at Northridge Community Church of the Nazarene, 10650 Reseda Blvd. White, a singer/songwriter from Nashville, targets a teen-age audience with a message of abstinence and resisting the pressures of society. White and band members will speak to teen-agers at 9:45 a.m. March 21.

PERFORMANCE: “Shabbat Joy, Shabbat Peace†will be preformed by the Columbia University Glee Club at 8:15 p.m. Friday at Temple Judea, 5429 Lindley Ave., Tarzana. The composer, Gary De Sesa, will accompany the choir on piano and Cantor Fran Larson will also perform. Admission is free.

LENTEN SERVICES: The Woodland Hills United Methodist Church, 5650 Shoup Ave., will present a three-week series on Lenten worship services beginning Wednesday. Pastor Ann Rosebrock of Knollwood United Methodist Church will speak on Wednesday, Pastor Catie Coots Donavan of North Oxnard United Methodist Church will talk on March 24 and Pastor Doug Williams of Irvine United Methodist Church will speak on March 31. Each session begins at 7:30 p.m.

LECTURE: “The Making and Transmission of the Bible†will be discussed by Geddes MacGregor, distinguished USC professor emeritus of philosophy, at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Valley Senior Service and Resource Center, 18255 Victory Blvd., Reseda. A native of Scotland and author of 31 books, MacGregor was a Red Cross chaplain and served in the British Civil Defense in World War II.

PARENTING SEMINAR: A seminar titled “Positive Parenting: A Christian Perspective,†will be presented at 2:30 p.m. March 20 at the Sylmar Seventh-day Adventist Church, 13456 Glenoaks Blvd. The seminar will be led by David B. Smith, author and educator who works as a public relations director in Christian television. Items to be discussed include building and maintaining a solid marriage, becoming an effective communicator and disciplining wisely and effectively. Admission is free, but a free-will offering will be taken.

SHARED SERVICE: Temple Beth Hillel will share an evening of worship and song with the Congregation of Faithful Service Baptist Church of Los Angeles on March 26. Following a 6:30 p.m. service, a dinner will be served at 7:15 p.m., concluding with a gospel concert by the Faithful Service Choir. Dinner is $8 per person.
