An annual fund-raiser to generate money to help feed exotic animals will be held today and Sunday at Moorpark College.

The Exotic Animal Training and Management program’s third “Spring Spectacular†will present shows featuring the program’s 106 animals at 10 a.m., noon, 2 and 4 p.m. today and Sunday in the Teaching Zoo, at the northwest corner of the campus.

“It’s a chance to get very close to a wide variety of exotic animals,†college spokesman Gerry Olsen said. “We’ll have everything from snakes and primates to a water buffalo and birds of prey.â€

Two shows, “Salute to Animals in the Movies†and “The Starship SSP (Species Survival Plan),†will alternate performances.

The cost is $6 for adults and $4 for senior citizens, students, staff and children.

Children under 2 will be admitted free.

Admission to the Teaching Zoo is $1, with children 12 and under admitted free. Behind-the-scenes tours of the animal areas will also be available for $5 per person. Booths for arts, crafts, food and displays are also planned throughout the weekend.

Many graduates of the program move on to trainer jobs at zoos and other attractions such as Sea World and Disneyland, Olsen said.
