1993 PREP PREVIEW / BOYS TENNIS : ESPERANZA
- Share via
Coach: Jean Agee (fifth year).
1992: 22-1, 10-0 in Empire League; reached Division 3-A finals, losing to San Marino, 13-5.
Key returners: Kyle Acree, Sr., will play No. 3 singles or No. 1 doubles. Mike Burgess, Sr., will play No. 1 singles; Alex Conter, Sr., moves to No. 2 singles after playing No. 1 doubles the last two years; Jeff Lawson, Sr., will play No. 3 singles;
Key newcomers: Eric Chang, Jr.; Devin Lopez, So.; Dinesh Moorjani, Jr.
Outlook: With six returning seniors, Agee should skate to her fourth consecutive league title. Burgess, ranked 55th in the Southern California 18s, will battle Cameran Lindee of Loara for the league singles title; Esperanza has escaped San Marino and moved to the new Division II. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean winning a section title will get any easier. Traditional power Harvard Westlake could pose even bigger problems. Nonleague matches against Canyon and Sunny Hills will likely give Esperanza its toughest matches until the section playoffs.
