Accused Insurance Swindler Hospitalized: Alan Teale, the Atlanta businessman indicted last month in a $50-million international insurance scam, has been hospitalized in Mobile, Ala., and may be unable to face trial. Teale was to have had his spleen removed and may require triple-bypass heart surgery after that, his attorney told Bloomberg Business News. Teale, a British citizen, and his wife, Charlotte Rentz, were arrested by the FBI last month after the indictment by a federal grand jury. Using a complex network of shell companies, the couple allegedly sold worthless commercial, health and auto policies to thousands of consumers, including many from California.
