AND ONE MORE THING: Attention Grammy nominees: There might be some quick cash waiting for you if you take an award home from the Shrine Auditorium on Feb. 24. And we don’t mean from the boost in record sales that often comes with Grammy victory.
Two separate music paraphernalia collectors have advertised recently in Los Angeles wanting Grammy awards to put on their own mantles. One of them is Jim Greenwood, a private collector who used to own the old Licorice Pizza record store chain. He’s been collecting various music awards for years, but doesn’t own a Grammy, which he describes as “the pinnacle of achievement in music.â€
But new Grammy winners might want to let their awards age a bit. Greenwood’s primary interest is in awards with historical value--with the Beatles at the top of his list. He says he’d go as high as $2,000 for the right one.
