Louisville’s Daws to Play Soccer for Notre Dame

Louisville High soccer player Cindy Daws, an All-American midfielder who has 60 goals and 28 assists in three seasons, signed a letter of intent Wednesday to play for Notre Dame.
Daws, from Northridge, is a two-time All-Southern Section player.
In other signings Wednesday:
Nordhoff girls’ volleyball standout Sami Sawyer signed a letter of intent to play at the University of Houston next fall, and Shannon Martin of Hart signed with Arizona.
Sawyer, a 5-foot-10 setter-middle blocker, led Nordhoff to the state and Southern Section Division IV titles and earned Southern Section Division IV player-of-the-year honors. She also earned Frontier League player-of-the-year honors for the third straight year after leading the Rangers to their third league title in a row.
“Meeting the girls on the team and hearing what they had to say about the coach (Bill Walton) is what helped me make up my mind,” said Sawyer, who chose Houston over Cal State Northridge, Oklahoma and Virginia.
Martin, a 6-1 middle blocker, originally committed to Northridge, but, like Sawyer, dropped the Matadors from her list of schools when veteran Coach Walt Kerr resigned.
