SHADOW KNOWS? Ever wonder how much guesswork is involved when magazines tell you rich people’s net worth? Worth, the trendy investment magazine, says this month that Irvine Co. chairman Donald Bren lost $100 million of his billion-plus in 1992. Interesting, say officials at Bren’s company, since Forbes magazine recently had him up a couple hundred million. . . . Bren’s people won’t discuss Worth’s assessment, but point out that company sales in 1992 were $800 million--up $300 million.
