Justice Marshall and Death Penalty

It was with deep sadness that I learned of the death of Justice Thurgood Marshall (Jan. 25). As a young child in Baltimore, I went through the “semi-segregated” school system of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Marshall was a hero to many of us during a time when there were too few heroes for black children.
I will not mourn his passing. I believe that he has earned his rest after fighting the good fight for more years than I have been alive. I shall instead mourn the fact the current Supreme Court has no one with the heart or compassion to equal Justice Marshall. The lion has passed, leaving no cubs.
