Evidence in Check Forgery Case Goes Down Suspect’s Hatch
TROY, N.Y. — The evidence is missing in a check forgery case, but its whereabouts are no secret. Police say the culprit told them he gobbled it up.
Frank Grasso, 53, was arrested Thursday after trying to cash an $840 check at a bank. Officer Donald Backaus took Grasso to the police station, where he was handcuffed to a bench. The check was left on a desk in the same room.
Backaus said that when he returned after leaving Grasso alone, the check was missing. As he was searched, Backaus said, Grasso told him: “You won’t find it because I ate it.â€
Grasso was held on a forged check charge. Bail was set at $5,000.
