‘Peanut Packing’

I would like to correct a misleading statement in the short article “Peanut Packing Can Be Recycled” (Jan. 3).

The statement “Packing peanuts are not biodegradable. They will be around in 500 years. . .” is not completely true. Some of the packing peanuts being used today are biodegradable.

The company I represent, Jafra Cosmetics International, part of Gillette, uses biodegradable peanuts because we are concerned about our environment.

I applaud your eforts to make the public aware that these peanuts can be recycled but I think you should also let them know that there is an alternative to using them in the first place.
