Michener failed to realize that the consequences of King David’s sin went beyond a hand slapping by a prophet. The child conceived by his lusts (not Solomon) was taken from him by death. David recognized his errors and begged our Lord for forgiveness, yet accepted God’s retribution. It is true, David is considered the “premier earthly king” in the Judeo-Christian world. But, with apologies to Lloyd Bentsen, Clinton is no King David.
