ROUNDUP : Ocean View Scores Two Late Goals in 3-2 Upset of Marina
After taking a one-goal lead over Ocean View, Marina appeared to have it made. But looks were deceiving.
Eighth-ranked Ocean View (13-4-1, 4-1 in league) scored twice in the final 12 minutes for a 3-2 upset of the fifth-ranked Vikings in a Sunset League match Thursday at Marina. The loss dropped the Vikings (9-3-3, 3-1) into third place, behind second-ranked Edison and Ocean View. Marina plays host to Edison on Wednesday.
Amy Peterson, who scored both Marina goals, said once her team got the lead, “I think we were already thinking about next week’s game, like we had it made.â€
But the Seahawks weren’t finished. Forward Kimberly Engesser, one of five sophomore starters for Ocean View, tied the game, 2-2, with about 12 minutes remaining, and her 30-yard shot over the head of goalie Carrie Florgan with two minutes left provided the winning score.
“They dominated the game,†Engesser said, “but we got more in the back of the net.â€
Florgan finished with four saves, while Ocean View goalie Lynn Brown had 10. Brown’s teammates made three other saves.
Janee Sansone scored the game’s first goal, before Peterson scored twice.
