Quincy Plays Role Well, Offering Token Resistance in Pepperdine Loss
Pepperdine Coach Tom Asbury said he was hoping for a breather before West Coast Conference play when his team played Quincy, an NCAA Division III team, Tuesday night.
The Hawks were more than willing to cooperate.
The Waves cleared their bench and led by as many as 42 points in coasting to a 90-60 victory at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu.
Pepperdine improved to 8-3 and Quincy is 5-7.
Pepperdine was led by freshman reserve guard Jamal Lawrence with 18 points.
Lawrence’s scoring outburst was unexpected because it was only his second game since returning from a five-game suspension for violating team rules.
Quincy, which shot only 26.8%, was led by forward Reggie Bell, a former player at Hawthorne High and College of the Canyons, with 12 points.
