MISSION VIEJO : Man Hit, Badly Hurt on Freeway Shoulder
A 35-year-old man trying to fix his car on the shoulder of the northbound Interstate 5 was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon when the vehicle was hit from behind.
Miguel Arizmendi, of Capistrano Beach was standing in front of his parked car looking under the hood when the 2:54 p.m. accident occurred on the freeway just north of Crown Valley Parkway, CHP officials said.
Officer Rick Pena said a 17-year-old Mission Viejo boy hit Arizmendi’s parked car after losing control of the vehicle he was driving. The youth’s car had just been sideswiped in traffic by a car driven by 23-year-old Kevin Michelle of Mission Viejo, Pena said.
Arizmendi was thrown about 50 feet and was taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo where he is in stable condition, hospital officials said.
No drivers were cited at the scene and the accident remains under investigation, Pena said.
