Question: What is the key to obtaining a presidential pardon for a crime that was committed under the guise of being patriotic?
Answer: Be a Republican in good standing with the party and it’s OK to lie under oath.
As an example President Ford pardoned the disgraced former President Nixon to save the country the agony of the possible impeachment of a chief executive who happened to be a Republican. Now we learn that President Bush has pardoned Weinberger and a few others, who sincerely believed that there was nothing wrong or illegal in lying to Congress. Or is it just possible that by this action Bush made certain that he wouldn’t face an investigation of himself with regard to the Iran-Contra mess?
