An off-duty detective shopping at a Target store in Lancaster saw a man who fit the description of a suspected bank robber and arrested him, authorities said Sunday.
William Weinert, 40, of Lancaster was being held on suspicion of bank robbery at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles on $30,000 bail, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Ron Shreves said.
Sheriff’s Detective Charles Ingram was shopping about 8:45 p.m. Saturday when he recognized a bank robbery suspect from surveillance photos, Shreves said. Ingram knew the man was wanted for robbing a bank in Lancaster, Shreves said.
Ingram called for additional help from uniformed deputies, then took Weinert into custody without incident, Shreves said.
Weinert subsequently admitted to robbing the Lancaster bank twice and another bank in the area, Shreves said. The FBI is continuing the investigation, he added.
