COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Grand Canyon Routs Chapman at Chico State Tournament
Chad Briscoe made nine-three point baskets in scoring 35 points to lead Grand Canyon to a 106-83 victory over Chapman University Wednesday in the consolation final of the Chico State tournament.
Jeff Gardner had 18 points and Richie Bethune 16 for the Panthers (3-7).
Glen Greene had 11 points and five assists and Brian Kennedy had 10 points, including two three-pointers, for Chapman.
Gardner, a 6-foot-3 forward, and Bethune, a 6-7 center, each had six rebounds. Grand Canyon (7-3) outrebounded Chapman, 49-39, including 20 offensive rebounds.
Chapman won one of three games during the tournament. Chapman beat Bethany, 99-81, Tuesday and lost to Chico State, 93-92, in Monday’s first round.
In nonconference women’s basketball:
Southern California College 57, Lubbock (Tex.) Christian 53--Becky Hinojos had 13 points for host Southern California, which trailed at the half, 27-23. Joetta Sailors added 10 points for the Vanguards.
Metro State (Denver) 88, Christ College Irvine 52--Cindy Dalton scored 19 points to lead Metro State (9-1) over Christ College (9-3), which got 15 points from Gitte Mejer.
